What this does: Field Encryption adds end-to-end encryption to individual fields in a request. When a field is encrypted, the data your client enters is scrambled before it leaves their browser and can only be read by someone with the decryption key in your Gatheroo account. This is suitable for highly sensitive information such as tax file numbers, bank account details, passwords or ID numbers and available on Text Fields (Area and Single Line).
How to enable Field Encryption on a field
- Open your request in the Request Builder.
- Find the field you want to encrypt (Single Line of Text or Text Area).
- In the field settings panel on the right, find the Field Encryption option and toggle it on.
- Save your request.
What your client sees
Encrypted fields look similar to standard fields, but display a padlock icon and green banner to indicate the data is being protected by an extra level.
Viewing encrypted data
When a client submits an encrypted field, the value is stored in encrypted form. To read it, you’ll need to decrypt it from within your Gatheroo account:
- Open the submitted request in Request Preview.
- Find the encrypted field – it will show a padlock icon and a Decrypt button.
- Click Decrypt to view the value. The decrypted value is only visible during that session and is not stored in plain text.
Important considerations
- If you enable encryption on a field after a client has already submitted data, previously submitted values are not retroactively encrypted.
- For requests involving highly sensitive data, combine Field Encryption with Secure Access (passcode protection) for an additional layer of security.
